Welcome to the official site of Sydney's best loved rock and roll band.

Established in 2010, Matchbox has become a crowd favorite on the 

busy rock and roll circuit and has gained a reputation for bringing

high energy and high quality rock and roll music to clubs and venues

across Sydney and the East Coast of New South Wales.

The band has also performed at large open air events such as

Chromefest at the Entrance, and at several Australia Day celebrations

on behalf of local councils.

Matchbox are a dynamic five piece band comprising members with 

decades of experience.  Their song list includes popular hits

from idols such as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson,

Fats Domino, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beatles,

The Mavericks and many more.

The band is dedicated to keeping 50's 60's rock and roll alive

and is guaranteed to entertain you and keep you dancing.

 Trevor's desire to learn to play bass guitar began quite late in life at the 'tender' age of 55.  His passion for rock and roll dancing played a big part, as dancing brought him into contact with several top bands doing the Sydney rock and roll circuit.  So after tinkering around the edges, he bought his first bass guitar in 2004 and so began two years of dedicated and long hours of practice. Two years later, he was invited to join a newly formed blues band, Vinni & The Moonliters.  After three years of band work in a sort of restricted market, his service was terminated in 2009.  A year later, Trevor decided to form his own rock and roll band, and so founded Matchbox Band in 2010.  

 Jono has been gigging in rock and roll bands since the late seventies.  A versatile entertainer who plays bass and rhythm guitar, he does solo and duo work on a regular basis. Jono shares in the lead vocals for Matchbox and has remained dedicated to the success of this band.  Always the first to arrive at gigs without fail, he also plays a valued role in sound management and also providing popular music during the breaks.  

An extremely talented and gifted musician, John pursued his interest in playing drums as a teenager.  His talents must surely have been recognized by fellow musicians and John was soon sought after by many successful rock and roll bands in the eighties. He was selectively pursued by Matchbox for his skills and fortunately became available to join the band in 2010 and has remained with Matchbox ever since and rarely missing a gig. John certainly keeps the beat going and his aim is to keep playing into a ripe old age. 

  Dominic joined the band on 23rd October, 2015. Ironically, he replaced his mentor, the late Chris Pietersz who was our original keyboard player. Dominic began his musical career from his early school days playing in school bands and then progressing to doing regular gigs with Eastern Spice, The Cosmic Blues and was a founding member of The Breakaways, a very successful Club, Restaurant, Wedding and Cruise Band in the 1970's and 1980's. He joined the Army Reserve Band in 2005 and was a member of The Royal Military College Band in Duntroon, regularly performing at Vice Regal receptions. Chris passed away in September 2015 and Dominic was invited to join Matchbox Band. 

 Tony started playing the guitar at the age of 13, influenced in the early days by such artists as; The Shadows , The Beatles, Chuck Berry, Eric Clapton, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and John Fogarty. He has been playing the guitar for over 50 years but also plays, and teaches THE BANJO,THE MANDOLIN, THE UKULELE, THE HARMONICA and THE SLIDE GUITAR. Tony has written over 250 songs and his music is being heard in over 21 countries worldwide. He has also been nominated for a number of awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival and is a regular guest at most other festivals both here and overseas. In fact Tony has just returned from a tour of New Zealand and has also played festivals and venues in Texas, Memphis and Nashville Tennessee. This comes from his dedication and love for the guitar. 

Tony spent three years playing with the Pink Chevys and is now a full time member of the Matchbox Band since September 2019 with friends he has played with and admired for many, many years.
